Abstract

This work presents the way of life of the Guarani Mbya and their crafts, basketry. Why aren't these teachings being given to children? The objective is to present the importance of basketry, an identification as Mbya, for the Guarani Mbya. The methodology is qualitative, with bibliographical research and interviews with artisans, in a case study. This work will contribute to the creation of teaching materials in the indigenous school in the Guarani village. The conclusion is that basket weaving is no longer important because the Mbya no longer know what is part of their cultural identity, a part of the ancient culture that is being lost. There is a need for Guarani craft workshops at school, as a relevant means of resistance.
