Baniwa Narratives and Folk Tales

Abstract

This book is the result of the university extension course “Texts of the Territory,” organized by the University Center for Research in Innovation, Reform, and Educational Change (Ceunir) in partnership with the Indigenous organization Nadzoeri. The course brought together secondary school students, practicing teachers, researchers, and leaders from the Baniwa and Koripako peoples. Participants were invited to conduct research on their territories, recognizing them as sources of knowledge and as a basis for developing reading and writing activities grounded in Baniwa and Koripako realities. For this reason, we would like to thank Professor Elie Ghanem (Feusp), coordinator of Ceunir and of the Technical Cooperation Agreement between Ceunir/Feusp and Nadzoeri/Foirn, as well as his team, comprising Diana de Paula Pellegrini, Janaína Aline dos Santos e Souza, Bruna Chung Abate, Beatriz de Oliveira Costa Nunes, and Daniella Magalhães Gaeta Ruiz, for their institutional support and for the joint planning of the course together with Baniwa and Koripako teachers. During the course, we also received support from the Brazilian Literacy Association (Abalf) and the Leetra Laboratory, coordinated by Professor Maria Sílvia Cintra Martins (UFSCar), who encouraged the publication of this book.
